Navigating The Journey

This year we have been doing a program called navigating the journey. We started in term 3 and are just stopping now in term 4.

How To Be A Good Friend                                                                                                                                                                                                           It takes a lot to be a good friend, not just saying your a good friend and sometimes talking to them. It takes loyalty to always stick by their side. It takes trustworthiness to know your friends aren’t lying to you. It takes kindness for when someone feels hurt. It takes someone who cares to know how someone feels.

Making Decisions                                                                                                                                                                                                                        In life you have to make a lot of decisions and that can be hard. We have to make decisions about how we treat people and when we make the wrong decision we can hurt people and be really bad friends. When you feel like one of your friends have been a bad friend or have hurt you there are three ways you can respond. The first way is to be passive. Passive is where you don’t say anything and the feelings can build up if you don’t talk to someone. Aggressive is where you get mad and can be very rude, if this happens you will have lost your power of being the bigger person. And last but not least assertive, assertive is where you talk calmly and don’t lose your temper but you tell them how you feel.

Changes In Puberty                                                                                                                                                                                                                      There is a lot of stuff that happens in puberty and it is important to keep clean. There are many items to help you keep clean, but you have to do most of the work. You have to: clean your clothes, have a shower at least 4 times a week and many more things.

Monster Genetics

For C.R.T. we did monster genetics. We had to make 4 monsters using a chart, a orphine, a mum, a dad, and a baby. For the first one we got to choose what genetics we wanted to have. But for the family we had to work with to other people and flip coins to find out the genetics. I worked with Mattis, Aylah, and Lexie.

  1. Genetics is instructions are instructions for making you like a recipe book.
  2. Traits are hereditary from you parents and grandparents.
  3. DNA looks like a curvy staircase made out of cotton buds. It is hard to draw DNA.
  4. Hereditary is when traits are passed down from family members.
  5. All living things have genes.
  6. Some medical conditions can be passed down.

Our challenge was to create an alien using traits. We flipped a coin and chose the traits that way.

Te Reo T.A.P

In Te reo we have been learning about T.A.P. Tense, action, and person. We had to put these words in sentences. My sentences are: The dog is singing, Felix is dancing, you are jumping, and I am sleeping.

Holes Create

For literacy we are doing a novel study about the book Holes. I did two creates, I dug a 5 foot wide 5 foot deep hole with 5 other people. The people I worked with were: Mahalia, Ailia, Geordie, Mattis, and Ashleigh. I have some photos of when we were half way done digging the hole, but we didn’t get photos of the finished product. I enjoyed digging the hole. I found the fact that if you dug to high you caused an avalanche challenging. Here are some photos of our hole and what we found.

The other thing I did was I made a map of camp green lake. I wanted to make a map of camp green lake because I wanted to know how what I thought it look like would come out on paper. I have no photos of my map of camp green lake.

Why Is It Important To Go Outside?

Why Is It Important To Go Outside

Have you ever experienced nature first hand? There are so many reasons why we need to spend more time outside. It’s important to go outside because everyone needs fresh air. Plants provide fresh air so we can breathe healthily. But there’s also sunlight. Every living creature needs sunlight, not just plants. You can also see the amazing shows  nature has to provide. Everything from volcanic eruptions to birds singing next to a waterfall. Nature has everything!

Everyone needs fresh air. If we never went outside we would get less and less fresh air. Plants provide fresh air. Fresh air starts with carbon dioxide which is bad to breathe and can make you sick. Plants and trees suck in all the carbon dioxide and let out oxygen. The problem comes when trees are cut down or fall down. When that happens all the carbon dioxide comes out.

But there are other things than fresh air, there’s also sunlight. Sunlight provides something that also helps us stay healthy, it is called Vitamin D. Without Vitamin D we would get something called “Rickets”. Rickets is where your bones get soft. In some cases of Rickets your muscles become weak and sore. But even worse in extreme cases of Rickets can affect your growth.

Finally, there are other things than health that are amazing about being outside, things like nature. There are some many different things that are great about nature. From the exciting to the beautiful to the ugly. Things like volcano’s and tsunamis or a waterfall with friendly chirping birds around and a field of poppies, or even a poisonous tree frog and some cute tadpoles. Nature can offer so much, so take the offer it has a big discount!

In conclusion, we need to spend more time outside because of all the benefits we get compared to when we stay inside. From fresh air to Vitamin D to the extraordinary stunts of nature, it seems like the outdoors has everything we need. Next time you’re outdoors, take your time and enjoy what nature and the sun have to give you. Take a deep breath of fresh air and remember that deep breath for the rest of the day because it is special.

This is my explanation writing. It takes a lot more then having a topic to write an explanation. You will need to know the different types of sentences and how to use them, they are called: simple, compound, and complex.

A simple sentence is just a normal everyday sentence for example: I went to the grocery store. A compound sentence is where you add on to your simple sentence, for example: I went to the grocery store and bought bananas, apples, and tomato sauce. And finally complex sentences you take a simple sentence and without using a joining word you add a part that wouldn’t be right on its own, for example: I went to the grocery store, they were out of cherry tomatoes.

It can be hard to plan but there is one easy way to plan. To start, you brainstorm as many ideas as you can about one theme. After that you choose three of those ideas and use them as paragraphs. I need to use more complex sentences. My favorite part of my explanation is the nature extravaganza!

Letter Home Sir Edmond Hillary

Dear family and friends we have arrived at mount Everest this will be my only letter until I get back down mount everest. I’m very excited to get to the top. We have been preparing for days, I am going with a man named Tenzing Norgay. He had been very up lifting when he first got here but now he is very worried and multiple times he has tried to back out of this. I thought of letting him go but then I thought of the cold nights up there that I know is going to happen. Do I want to be alone? Or do I want to drag him up that huge mountain? It’s a hard choice  but I don’t want to be alone. Do you want to share the fame, yes of course, but do I want more weight? What if I brought someone else up the mountain? Oh no, someone mentioned the fame and glory and now Tenzing wants so badly to get to the top. This was a bad idea but no backing out now.

I’m scared to do this but I want to make you proud. I’m scared to do this alone but the guy that I am going up the mountain with might pull me down at any moment to get more fame. Even though I am scared I will fight to make you proud.

When you get this letter I will be up the mountain and unreachable but send a letter for when I get down. This letter will go far and travel the world like I did. If I die, keep this letter forever because it will be the last you hear of me.

I will love you forever whether or not I die. I hope you will always love me too.

Gosh writing those words makes me feel like I’m about to die but I won’t I’m sure.

This is my idea of what it might have been for Sir Edmond Hillary just before he climbed mount Everest.
